The rental solution for a electric car battery is undoubtedly the most interesting one in order the assist the customer to understand this new economic model. However, some questions remained without answers about the lease contract. This point is crucial to estimate the vehicle's residual value, especially for long-term leasers, insurers, car experts ...

Julien Dusoulier, the Renault ZE coordinator for France, gave an update on these issues with JC PAPAZIAN Expert-VE and CFPELEC.

JC PAPAZIAN - Is it possible that in the future an operator other one than Renault can rent a battery, at the end of the rental agreement for example?

Julien Dusoulier - No, only Renault through RCI is authorized to propose rental agreements of battery(drum kit) on leading vehicles Renault. The end of the rental agreement of the customer takes place at the time of the resale of its vehicle and in that case Renault and RCI makes a commitment to accept every buyer for the next rental agreement.

JCP - Do you plan an upgrade of batteries in the term of the contract? for example a rental of battery in the conditions of market at this moment: 80€ / month for a 50 kW.h battery in 4 years probably cf ENVIASYSTEMS .

JD - It is not planned by upgrade of the batteries(drum kits) in the future, in the same way as new generation engines are not changed in the thermal vehicles.

JCP - Do you plan eventually (later) a rent of battery at several levels function of the capacity as TESLA do for example?

JD - It is not planned in date

JCP - You Could specify the conditions of the adjustment at the end of contract or in case of transfer, ideally with typical examples (in duration and in km + or-).

JD - Several solutions appear:

- Modification of the contract:

The customer can renegotiate his formula according to the couple annual mileage / lasted subscription until 3 months before the end of his contract

- Transfer of contract

The rental agreement of battery of the customer comes to an end when the vehicle is resumed) by the network Renault or when the customer resells it in a third party.

The second hand car customer is automatically "accepted" on the rent of battery.

Thanks to a specific RCI platform, a new rental agreement of battery is set up with the econd hand car customer.
